The GR 11 (or the Senda) crosses the Pyrenees from one end to the other, from east to west, in Spanish territory, for approximately 770 km, from Cap de Creus to Cap du Figuier, in 40 stages. It crosses Catalonia, a small part of Andorra, Aragon, Navarre and ends in Guzcoa. From the wooded hills of the piedmont, on paths and tracks, to the high mountains in the scree, on grassy slopes and scree, all levels of the mountain are explored.
Catalan aridity, bushes and cork oaks, monasteries under the sun. At Setcases, the land of high passes opens up. Then there are the Encantats (the "enchanted") and the countless lakes of the Aigues Tortes national park. The route then becomes bolder at the foot of Aneto, then Posets. Ordesa arrives, Niscle and Monte Perdido exalt themselves: "The implacable beauty of nature, the slow mirage of erosion, a collision of the senses," in the fervent words of P. Macia. The hiker then ventures into Navarre, with its green rebounds and deep forests as if at the origins of the world. Finally, just before the ocean, there is Guipuzcoa, the land of oaks, springs, and wood pigeon houses. With this crossing, you are faced with one of the most grandiose adventures that the European continent has to offer. Easier than the HRP, more challenging than the GR 10, the Senda will require more initiative and more instinct than its French cousin.
