Lake District Mountain Landscape

Alastair Lee

Lake District Mountain Landscape is a spectacular photographic perspective on the Lake District from award-winning mountain photographer and filmmaker Alastair Lee. More than five years in the making, it is a work of extraordinary commitment and originality.

With an emphasis on the mountain heights, Lee captures the otherworldliness and majesty of the 'English Alps' in all seasons and conditions. An experienced climber, Lee brings all his skill and tenacity to the task of capturing sunrise from the summits of the highest peaks in England, moonlight on icy slopes and seas of cloud filling the familiar valleys of Lakeland.

Ascents of seemingly unscalable crags such as Pillar and Gimmer Crag are celebrated, and 360-degree panoramas in ethereal upland light from high peaks including Helvellyn, Bowfell and Great Gable are complemented by a series of identifying sketches.

In a book which is full of revelations for Lakelanders and visitors alike, Alastair Lee renews and redefines the magic of this much-loved landscape.

Alastair Lee is a multi award winning photographer and filmmaker. He has been taking photographs since he first went travelling at the age of twenty, and his main focus in front of the camera has always been his passion for rock climbing and mountaineering.

He is the author of seven books, including the acclaimed Pendle (Frances Lincoln, 2009), a collection of photographs of his beloved Pendle Hill in Lancashire, and Baffin Island (Frances Lincoln, 2012), a lavish photographic record of his expedition to Mount Asgard with world-renowned rock climber Leo Houlding. More than five years in the making, Lake District Mountain Landscape is his most ambitious book project.

Over the past ten years Lee has also established himself as one of the world's leading mountain and adventure filmmakers, scooping numerous awards at film festivals around the world: his 2008 release On Sight won the prestigious Grand Prize and Best Climbing Film award at the 2008 Kendal Mountain Film Festival. He followed this up with a trilogy of critically-acclaimed films with Leo Houlding: The Asgard Project - winner of 22 international awards, Autana and The Last Great Climb.

Alastair lives in Lancashire with his partner, son and daughter.
