Written and researched by outdoors journalist and cycling enthusiast Fergal MacErlean, the first Bike Scotland guide in this new Pocket Mountains series contains 40 great on- and off-road cycle routes, incorporating everything from easygoing family trips to wild mountain rides and epic cycling tours across some of the best biking country in central Scotland.

Each of Fergal's 40 routes is accompanied by an inspiring colour photograph and contoured map, all packed into the classic Pocket Mountains format and handy pocket size.

For Book One, Fergal was tasked by Pocket Mountains with making all routes accessible by public transport while still reaching central Scotland's most celebrated cycling areas ­ plus a few of its better-kept secrets.

The result is 40 hugely inspiring rides, covering Glasgow, Loch Lomond,
Arran and the Clyde Islands; Falkirk, Stirling and the Trossachs; Highland Perthshire; Fife and Lowland Perthshire; and Edinburgh and Lothian, with all route start points being accessible in an hour or less by train from central Scotland's main cities.
